About The Event

Step into the turbulent world of the Tudor court! In our second session, The Life and Times of Henry VIII (1491–1547), we uncover the reign of one of England’s most enigmatic and transformative monarchs. From his six marriages and dramatic break with the Catholic Church to his patronage of the arts and ruthless consolidation of power, Henry VIII’s legacy reverberates across centuries.


Guided by Alex, a distinguished scholar and Fellow of multiple prestigious institutions including Christ’s College Cambridge, the McDonald Institute of Archaeological Research, and the Institute for Oriental and Classical Studies at HSE University Moscow, this session will delve into critical historical questions: Was Henry VIII a visionary reformer or a tyrannical despot? How did his personal and political decisions redefine the structure of English society and the monarchy?
